BASE
7/1 The walls were first painted black.
Lynette paints as Dr. White steers the scissor lift. The wall is 11 feet off the floor and over 40 feet wide. |
OUTLINE

7/2 She starts with the theater side wall which will bear the nine planets of our solar system.
She prepares a carefully measured outline on this sheet of paper... |

This Jupiter is about 5 feet wide. |

INSPECTION

MILKY WAY
7/18 Now the planets are covered up in order to paint the Milky Way background.
With a technique called spatter-painting she paints most stars of the Milky Way galaxy.
ONE SIDE DONE
7/18 Fainter stars and interstellar dust is added with the airbrush. With a coat of varnish, this side is finished.
Shown here are (from left to right) Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn.

7/22 Lynette begins work on the other side. This is a recently discovered extrasolar planet Gliese 876 b.
The one on the left is a computer printout, the one on the right is her work on the wall.
